Staying Healthy Through Cold and Flu Season
How do you catch a cold?
As we all know, improper hand washing is a big problem. Hand-to-hand contact is the most common way cold viruses are spread.
Cold viruses can live on objects, like computer keyboards, pens, coffee mugs, and other objects for hours, so it’s easy to spread the “bugs” during daily activity.
There is good news though!
If your immune system is functioning optimally, it should be easy for you to steer clear of colds without ever getting sick. However, if your immune system is impaired, it’s a perfect way to have the cold/virus take hold in your body.
Here are some tips to make sure your immune system is strong and therefore, keeping you safe from getting sick:
1. Avoid eating sugar and too many grains
2. Get plenty of rest. A lack of sleep is sure to deplete your immune system.
3. Manage emotional stressors in your daily life
4. Make sure you are eating foods rich in vitamin D (salmon, tuna, eggs, cod liver oil)
If you have a cold, try these tips to kick it quick:
1. Hydrogen Peroxide.
Administer a few drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide into each ear. You will hear bubbling, and may possibly experience stinging (this is normal). Wait until the bubbling and stinging subside, then drain onto a tissue. Repeat with the other ear. You can find hydrogen peroxide in 3% solution at any grocery store for $3 or less.
I know you may not feel like it, but light exercise, like a walk, will be beneficial.

4. Wash your hands sensibly, but don’t overdo it.
Too much hand washing causes tiny skin abrasions or cracks and this can allow the germs access. The main point is to focus more and your immune systems ability to fight it off.
