Healthy peanut butter chocolate bars

There's really nothing like the peanut butter and chocolate combination to make your mouth water. But typically, recipes are loaded with sugar because of the peanut butter, milk chocolate chips, and added processed sugar. This recipe, however is made with whole-wheat flour, no-sugar peanut butter, carob chips, and sucanat. It's just sweet enough to satisfy the taste buds without all the extra sugar.

Shopping List:
• 1 Cup whole wheat flour
• 1/4 Teaspoon salt
• 1 Teaspoon aluminum-free baking powder
• 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter
• 3 Tablespoons unsweetened applesauce
• 1/2 Cup smooth peanut butter (no sugar)
• 1/2 Cup sucanat (Note: If you want them to be sweeter, you can add a little more sucanat or a couple tablespoons of honey)
• 2 Farm fresh eggs
• 1 Teaspoon pure vanilla extract
• 1 Cup carob chips (I get mine at Whole Foods Market), or you could use dark chocolate chips

1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a square, glass dish with butter.
2. Mix all the dry ingredients (flour, salt and baking powder) in a mixing bowl and set aside.
3. Combine the butter, applesauce, peanut butter, sucanat, eggs, and vanilla in a bowl and beat with a mixer until thoroughly blended.
4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix well.
5. Stir in the carob chips (or dark chocolate chips).
6. Pour mixture into glass baking dish, put in the oven and bake for 20-30 minutes, until the top is light, golden brown.
7. When done, remove from oven, let cool and cut into small squares.
